What is a Multi-Disciplinary Group?
A multi-disciplinary team is made up of individuals from various agencies, who come together to investigate cases of severe physical abuse and neglect and sexual abuse of children. These agencies, many of which have statutory responsibilities for investigating and prosecuting child abuse cases, include law enforcement, medical and mental health professionals, district attorneys, child welfare workers and Abbott House staff.
What do Multi-Disciplinary Teams do?
  • Intervene in cases of child abuse
  • Minimize further trauma to children who have been abused
  • Prevent further abuse by breaking the cycle of intergenerational abuse
  • Coordinate investigative agencies and encourage collaboration
  • Develop standards for consistent investigations
  • Minimize duplication of services
  • Insure efficient use of agency dollars
